Mr Nirmal Kulkarni

Nirmal Kulkarni is an affable eco-warrior, an award-winning conservation photographer and a passionate herpetologist with an unquantifiable eagerness to push boundaries in his line of calling.

With over two decades of field experience, he serves on the Goa State Biodiversity Board and is Chairman and Director of Mhadei Research Center, an independent research base that studies the Mhadei Bio Region spanning the states of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

He has to his credit, the discovery of 7 new species of lesser-known fauna to science from the states of Goa and Karnataka besides several other research papers and reports on tropical biodiversity.

Nirmal has to his credit many prestigious awards including the Sanctuary Asia Wildlife Award, the Carl Zeiss award, the Royal Bank of Scotland Inspire award and Sarpamitra award from Indian herpetological Society amongst others.

He is also Member, Viper Specialist Group IUCN and Senior Consultant, WCS- India for the Counter Wildlife Trafficking team.
